When I started this trip, I wondered how to let my friends know about it. Of course, I could post to social media. But I didn't want to overload anyone. I also didn't want to treat all my friends the same... because each is special...

I wanted... an... intimacy gradient.......

I first wrote about "intimacy gradient" (which is from the tome A Pattern Language) in this blog post about Natalia's Refresh Gallery.

It's not always easy, but this blog is me trying to explore that gradient more. I wanted somewhere my friends could check in occassionally, to see what I was up to in a more intimate way beyond social media.

I also was excited to try using more "pure" HTML and CSS...

I was trying to accomplish something 13 year olds did 20 years ago.

I think the “copy and alter”-method of authoring is genius in a world where everything is anxiously polished and uniform. To let the progression be a part of the published material is just beautiful. And exceedingly rare.

I really want to work this way more, if I can. You can see more people thinking this way in a collection I call "Pure HTML" ...

One other thing I did was start a separate Instagram account just for this trip. I call this strategy "account as album." (I was inspired by Kazuma's account for his and Kaori's trip to France.) You can see my account here. Maybe in the future I'll create more albums this way. Maybe in the future when we are all on a trip together, we can create a collaborative album, too.
