I am on a boat. A ferry. I am travelling to Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It's special because the G train is down this summer, so it's pretty much the only way to get to Greenpoint that's fast and pleasant. I feel lucky to live by multiple ferry stops.
It's an exciting time. Even though fall is coming, and I can feel its coolness and balance in the air already, I feel a lot of potential. Starting in September, my work life will change in a way I am looking forward to.
I don't think many people know, but all this time I have been adjunct teaching at universities. I have never been full time. I have realized I would really love to be full time, if possible, and I think I'd have a lot to contribute to the right institution. I am beginning a long term search for the right institutional home to become a "professor of practice." If you hear of anything -- please let me know. I am available beginning Q3 2025.
This November, I will be traveling to Korea and Japan. I hope to boot back up my Pomera notebook while I am there. It will be like I never even left! (Even though the last time I wrote there, it was 5 years ago technically.)
I am actually writing this in Pomera now, on this boat. It's pleasant. We started at Dumbo and now we are at Brooklyn Navy Yard. People are boarding. We are about to leave.
This summer, I have been working on a journaling app and methodology. With my friend Peter, we received a grant to create an MVP (minimum viable product). It's meaningful for a lot of reasons, but one is that I remember writing in this very notebook, about 3 years ago, that, "I would really love to work on a team who is developing a technological product that supports a lifestyle of immersion and reflection." I described it, "It's a companion for a more solo journey. It is offline first and supports different ways of interacting with the internet. It is interested in being healthy." Which basically describes Ping Practice. How cool!
